One of my hobbies is going to old rock quarry, road cuts, and stream beads to look for all kinds of cool rocks, minerals and fossils.
I always take a few types of hammers and chisels with me but the 3" X 8-1/2" FatMax Brick Set (16-327) is by far my all time favorites for working with shale.
The fine point the big 3” blade cuts helps split the rock right at the bedding plain by cutting into the nearest zone of weekends and makes working with this medium a much more enjoyable task.
Using this tool in combination with the 3 lbs. Nylon Grip Drilling Hammer (B3-3LB) from Estwing I have worked days on end with minimal fatigue and great results.
